Tresemme Product Review

I've been using Tresemme hair products on my hair since high school and I've always loved them. The huge bottles of shampoo and conditioner are always always in my shower and every time I travel I always make sure to buy the travel sized bottles to take with me.  Lately I've been trying out the Tresemme mousse and finishing spray too so I decided to do a review sharing my thoughts on these.

Tresemme Styling Mousse

My hair is probably as flat as flat could be and I will do absolutely anything to give it some lift.  I'm all for volume!  This styling mousse has been great for me when I do a full blow dry at home.  A little bit of this product certainly goes a long way.  I was so happy to find that this mousse is really light and isn't going to leave a sticky feeling in you hair or decrease the time period between washes.  It really adds great body to my hair and when paired with my Tresemme 44mm round brush for a great home blow dry, this dynamic duo gives me wonderful results.

Tresemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray

After having blow dried and styled my hair, I generally backcomb my roots slightly for added volume and to hold this body in place I will use this hair spray.  Once I'm happy with the amount of body in my hair I will also spray the ends to hold in the curl or waves for long lasting style.  This hair spray is also light weight and it doesn't leave any sticky residue in my hair.  It still allows movement in my hair but definitely secures the style.  The fragrance of this perfume is absolutely beautiful.  I've never come across a hair spray that smells like this one does.  They generally don't smell too great but this one often tempts me to spray more than my hair needs just so that the fragrance lingers in the air.  This hair spray hasn't dried out my hair at all which is also fantastic because I've tried a couple that definitely have.

These two products will most certainly become staples in my hair care routine.  They both give such great body and texture to my hair.  Neither product has left my hair feeling weighed down or sticky but rather quite touchable and I've also noticed that both add shine to my hair.  Overall I'm super impressed and if you're looking for a little more volume and style that lasts these two products come highly recommended!

Inoar Professional Extreme Premium Oil

Having long hair I find it's really important to take good care of it.  Good shampoos, conditioners, treatments and serums are an absolute essential.  I was recently given to Inoar Professional's Extreme Premium Oil to try out and I couldn't wait to share it with you!

This hair oil contains myrrh, argan, macadamia and rose imperial oils which have stood the test of time in terms of hair care.  These ingredients also mean that this oil has the most beautiful fragrance.  It is perfect for treating split ends, nourishing dry hair or making frizzy hair more manageable.  I generally use it after washing my hair while it is still damp but before styling and then every couple days I will just apply a little to my ends.  It is a non-greasy oil which means that my hair absorbs it so quickly and doesn't leave any residue behind.   My hair is loving it and I love how such a little bit (one pump) goes a really long way.  This 50ml bottle is bound to last me a long time.  Here's to many more good hair days!

Inoar Professional's Extreme Premium Oil is available in salons and spas from September 2014.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Okay, let's be honest.  We're all looking for short cuts in our busy lifestyles.  I'm one of those people that always seems to be in a rush.  I've got spare shoes and blazers in my car and I take my make up bag wherever I go because I'm always in a mad dash from here to there.  Since I've started working it's been ten times worse.  Today I'm going to share something with you that is going to save you so much time.  This little pearl of wisdom comes in the form of Batiste dry shampoo.

I picked up this dry shampoo at Clicks to give it a try and I immediately fell in love with it.  I've always been the girl that always washed my hair every two to three days.  This dry shampoo actually doubles that length of time and keeps my hair looking so fresh in that period.  Not only does it keep my hair clean, it also adds such a fantastic amount of volume that I can't even get from a good blowout.

I've tried two types of Batiste dry shampoo, the Tropical one which smells like summer and the XXL volume.  I'd say my favourite is the XXL Volume because I'm simply a lover of big hair and it does add more volume than the Tropical one.  They both keep my hair clean and looking great throughout the week though so I tend to alternate between them.  These products have really impressed me and even more so because I get to do more in the evenings than merely sorting out my hair.

Let's talk about Hair {Aussie hair review}

I've mentioned before that because my hair is so long, I  really have to take good care of it.  There's nothing worse than seeing that girl in the shops with long, tatty and ratty hair and to be honest I live in fear of being that girl.  To be sure that I don't end up looking like that, I really appreciate good quality hair products.  I've been a big fan of Aussie 3 Minute Miracle for some time now.  Every time I go into Clicks I can't seem to leave without making sure I have some in my basket.  It's rich texture has my hair feeling like silk time and time again.

I've only recently started using the shampoo and conditioner along with it too and it's a winning combo.  For starters, if you have this fabulous trio sitting in you room, your whole room is filled with this intoxicating, sweet aroma that lifts my mood immediately.  The shampoo is probably the most fragrant of all three and the moment you open the cap to use it, you will feel love-drunk with it.  The conditioner is great for in between 3 Minute Miracle treatments and is also the one to use if you're planning to curl your hair immediately.  I find that my hair is far too soft to curl it straight after I've used the Miracle treatment.

Pro's: amazingly soft and healthy hair that smells sweet and heavenly.

Con's: the bottles aren't big enough.  I'd be quite happy with a 5 litre bucket of each of these products.

How to Create a Beehive in 5 minutes

Hi from Los Angeles!!! I'm here until next week and then I'll hop right into some travel posts that I've been organising to share with you. Today I have a gorgeous blogger filling in for me. I've been reading her blog for a while now and I love her posts. Enjoy!!!

Hello there Arum Lilea readers!

My name is Sarah and I’m a fellow Joburg personal style blogger and I blog over at The Angelheaded Hipster. I was delighted when Leanne asked me to do a guest post while she was away as I really admire Leanne’s style and I think that Arum Lilea is one of the up and coming Joburg fashion blogs.

Today, I thought that I’d share one of my favourite hair tutorials for those of us who are fond for a 60’s style beehive but want an easy 5-minute alternative to the hair teasing mission that you find in a classic beehive. I love wearing a beehive for a quirky and nostalgic touch to a very feminine outfit. This tutorial is based on Tavi Gevinson’s two-minute Beehive tutorial, which you can see here. There are a variety of ways to create a Beehive, but I find this the easiest way to create the look especially if you have medium length hair.

  • Hair Brush
  • Hair Spray
  • Hair Pins
  • Hair elastic (this is optional)
  • Hair Bow (also optional)

Step One

Brush your hair thoroughly, pulling your hair up into a ponytail. Pay attention to the back of your head, as this will be on display with the beehive.

Step Two
Grab your hair elastic and tie your hair into a loose ponytail in the middle part of the top of your head. Make sure that you don’t tie your ponytail too tightly, you want it to be loose else you won’t be able to tuck the end of the ponytail underneath it. You don’t have to use a hair elastic, but I prefer to, as my hair is thick and very unruly, so the hair elastic adds an extra bit of security.

Step Three
Now comes the trickier part, tuck end of the ponytail underneath the base of the ponytail so that it forms the classic beehive shape with a lot of volume at the top part of your head. You may need to practice this a few times to get the top part of your hair smooth.

Step Four
Take your hairpins and pin the beehive down and secure. The pins work best on the sides of your head to make sure that the beehive stays up, but I also use them to secure the hair where you tucked the as well as to enhance the volume of the beehive.

Step Five
This is optional, but I like to take a large hair bow and secure it over the tuck. This is for aesthetical as well as practical reasons as it hides the hair elastic which may or may not be peeking out.

Step Six
Use hair spray to secure your beehive and any stray hairs, which may have fallen out.

Step 7

And voila! There you have an easy beehive, which will help you channel a 1950’s vibe without looking dated or like you just stepped out of Hairspray!

I hope that you found this tutorial useful and that you’ll be rocking your own beehive soon. Remember, practice makes perfect!
