The print on this dress has me all set and ready for a holiday.  It's such a vibrant print and I can't help but feel so happy when I wear it.  The floral is just so summery and gorgeous.  I decided to pair this dress with gold accessories so these accessories with pastels on a gold chain, gold bag and glittery gold heels were naturally what I gravitated towards.

Halloween Costume - Ancient Roman Empress {Zuri Giveaway}

It's almost time for Halloween and I've been so excited to plan my costume for this year.  Last year I happened to be in San Francisco for Halloween with a big group of friends and we decided to be different characters from Alice in Wonderland.  We had Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts (that was me by the way) and Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dee.  It was the most incredible experience being out in such a beautiful city on such a fun occasion where everyone takes their costumes very seriously.  There were absolutely no party-poopers who hadn't taken their costumes seriously which I thought was fantastic.

This year I have decided to be an Ancient Roman Empress.  I found the most beautiful accessories at Zuri to create my Halloween costume.  For my theme I looked for gold accessories preferably with coins or medals on them.  When I found this head piece and necklace which actually had Roman Emperors on them I knew it was meant t be.  I also picked up another gold necklace with a large medal on it and I decided to wrap this one up to make the perfect wrist piece for my costume.  Lastly I found gold rings all in different sizes, some being normal sized rings while others are midi rings.  Some are thick and others are thin which I thought created a lot of variation.  I used a blush maxi dress with gold braiding on it for my Roman toga and added flat sandals which also have gold in them.  I amped up the drama with bold make up with lots of gold, dramatic winged eyeliner and gold dust lips that you can only get away with on Halloween.  If you want a full tutorial on this make up look, let me know and I'll organise one.  So that is what I have planned for my Halloween look.  Now I just need to find something fun to do on the night!

I’ve added a couple beauties to my accessory collection.  I really love this bold bright pink one and the peachy collar too.  Which is your favourite?  My cousin, Ana, was staying with me this past weekend and she always prefers earrings to statement necklaces.  What it the item of jewellery that you instinctively reach for?

Arum Lilea's Guide: How to Accessorise

I love to play with accessories.  Great statement necklaces are my favourite pieces.  Wearing one of these is such an easy way to take your outfit up a notch.  I’m crazy about anything rose gold so, naturally, my watch is this colour.  I usually wear it with chunky bracelets in the same colour or I mix it with gold or silver.  I also love this chevron pastel bangle.  Every girl needs a great cocktail ring.   My fingers are so tiny that I only have two that actually fit, but I love looking at everyone else’s sparkly ones.  Accessories aren’t limited to jewellery either – I have been known to sport a giant bow in my hair from time to time.  A bag can also add another dimension to a perfect outfit.  I like to either use one in a similar shade to a busy outfit or if I’m wearing a simple outfit, I might use a bright bag.

The key, I think, to accessorising is to have fun.  Play around.  Be bold one day and simplistic the next.  You really can’t go wrong.

Currently obsessed

So this is my staple at the moment.  It doesn't matter what you decide to put on underneath but wear a gorgeous statement necklace and waves in your hair and you're ready to walk out the door and take over the world.  So glamorous, so sophisticated, so refined.  What more could a girl want?

For those who noticed I've been neglecting my blogging duties (sorry, Johlet ;), I have indeed been MIA.  I've been studying hard and the stress has not been a good look.  Also I'm currently between two extremely painful dentist visits, dentists being ranked highest on my short list of very scary things.  I'm not complaining, however, because I realise how lucky I am to be able to have a degree behind me and have the privilege of dental care.  Too blessed to be stressed I always remind myself.

To say I have been neglecting my blogging duties can be extended to general, overall, neglect.  My friends don't remember what I look like.  Neither did Grant.  Lucky for me he can be so romantic and whisked me away to the Drakensberg this past weekend knowing that I could afford to take a break from the books.  How sweet is he?  I had no idea and boy does this girl love surprises.  We rode horses, hiked, ate too much and caught up on some beauty sleep.  Bliss.

Change of season

This weekend was incredible.  It was one of those that will be hard to top.  Despite the wonderful sunny weather, the change of season is now obvious.  We're getting a bite of chill and it has be excited for the winter to come.  Grant spoilt me rotten this weekend and one of the beautiful items I came home with was a Forever New coat from the Northern Lights collection.  All these clothes are so feminine and beautiful that it's hard to find something you dislike in the shop.  I love these images for the collection.

My week in pictures

It's been a very busy week.  I've done so much and the time has just flown by.  My wonderful boyfriend took me for dinner at Koi in Rosebank where we had the most amazing Dim Sum and sushi  followed by delicious fushion earl grey tea with lavender.  The frame is from my room and it has the caption "I want to travel the world so that I have pictures of us kissing in every city".  Couldn't be more accurate.  I went to see him for a cup of tea in his work break and I had a pink petit four yummy!!!  The typography is there as inspiration because I need the studying I'm doing to pay off.  The kitty is TC and he was keeping me company as I studied.  The HUGE bun is so much fun and so elegant.  Surprisingly it's made with a sock!?!  It gave me a headache after a while but it was still pretty.  The jewels are my favourite necklace at the moment.  The cupcake?  A party favour made by my friend and her mom for her 21st birthday party themed black and white.
